Plan a session
with one purpose.

Your takeaway: a reusable session plan with a purpose, progression and closing reflection.

Choose an observable goal

Select one thing the athlete will practice doing. Replace broad aims such as getting better with something you can observe in the sport: scanning before receiving, maintaining balance through a change of direction or choosing a passing option. Use the athlete’s experience and needs to choose the challenge.

Build the session backward

Decide what would show useful progress at the end. Start with a low-pressure activity, introduce the key movement or decision, then add a relevant constraint. Leave time to explain the purpose, offer feedback, take breaks and discuss the next step. Adjust the plan when the athlete needs a different pace.

Review what actually happened

After the session, record what worked and one adjustment for next time. An activity being busy does not prove learning. Look for an example of the athlete recognizing the situation or applying a cue with less help. Keep observations specific and avoid labeling the athlete.

Prepare your next session

  1. Write one observable training goal.
  2. Choose a starting activity and one progression.
  3. Reserve time for a closing question and note one adjustment afterward.

In your workspace, save private lesson notes and ask Ace to help prepare a session plan for a client you choose.
